What is the meaning of the terms Pts, P, W, T, L, GF, GA, Dif?
I downloaded a program called My World Cup 2006 1.2 from http://www.download.com
In this program you can manage all the scores of the teams. In the bottom of the screen there are columns captioned Pts, P, W, T, L, GF, GA, Dif. As you enter the score these columns are filled up automatically.
I can guess that Pts stands for Points and Dif stands for difference in the scores of the two teams.
I also read these terms in my daily newspaper in the same fashion.
Thus I want to know the meaning of all the terms in detail
The terms are: Pts, P, W, T, L, GF, GA, Dif

I appreciate the first answer. But I asked details, that is, say at least 1 or 2 lines about each.
i forgot to ask what is the meaning of GD
Pts – Points (3 points for a win, 1 for a draw, 0 for lost matsches)
P – Played (a regular league will play each team twice; when you play each team only once it is usually called a half-competition)
W – Won (says it all)
T – Tie (sometimes they use D for Draw as well)
L – Lost (says it all)
GF – Goals for (scored by in this case your team)
GA – Goals against (scored by the other teams)
Dif. – Goal difference (when you have scored 6 goals and got 4 against the Dif. is +2; if you score 9 and they scored 17 the dif. is -8). It is the difference in goals scored and against, NOT the difference in actual points.
The Dif. used to be used to determine which team ends higher when they are equal in points. Nowadays usually the results in the matches between the two teams in question determine which team ends higer. For exmple you might have a dif. of +4 and they have -2 but if they won against you they end higher.
You might find historical competitions where winning a match gave only 2 points, that’s the way it used to be some time ago.
Sometimes they use the following method:
Team A P-Pts (GF-GA)
Team B P-Pts (GF-GA)
etc.
That is basically a simplified version of the one described above.
